Preventive conservation of art
KEEP ART FOREVER is an activity born from the desire to bring preventive conservation of art into collectors’ homes.
Through Artesicura we offer a remote specialist assistance service. This involves the administration of a preliminary questionnaire about the current conditions of the works of art, a subsequent technical advice in video call for the completeness of the data collection and the preparation of a final report developed specifically for the collector.
Generic questions will be asked in the questionnaire for a preliminary analysis of the system around the collection. The place of residence or domicile will be requested to acquire fundamental data on city pollution. These data will be necessary for the evaluation of their interaction with the type of object under examination, through the use of updated external environmental monitoring databases.
Key threats will be examined: such as relative humidity, temperature and light. In that, the persistence of temperature and relative humidity values other than those that fall within the range of well-being for the work produces long-term damage.
Finally, the coexistence of different materials will be estimated with the aim of proposing the most suitable conditions of the system that guarantee a sustainable balance for each object. If any critical issues should arise, they will be reported.
The thermohygrometric conditions and the air quality outline the conditions of well-being of the works of art. Therefore, our goal will be to provide adequate awareness of the scientific care of artistic materials.
Conservation means creating the most suitable and stable micro-climatic conditions around the work. The study and collection of data relating to air and microclimate quality vary from case to case. This means that at least three main elements must be considered: the collection, the indoor conditions and the users. Each of these factors participates in the addition of variables that contribute to the complexity of the system.
Generic questions will be asked in the questionnaire for a preliminary analysis of the collection. The residential area for the acquisition of the city’s pollutants, will be requested. In fact, pollutant values acquired by external environmental monitoring database, allow to estimate their interaction with the works. Key threats such as relative humidity, temperature, and light, will be investigated. For example, persistence of temperature and relative humidity values that are not suitable for the well-being of the works, produces long-term damage. On the other hand, will be also important take into account the permanence of these conditions for specific materials because artworks adapted to a proper historical climate could be incur to further damages.
Data collected will be elaborated take into account given answers both during the questionnaire and during call session, and will be considered optimal variables in order to give an exhaustive overview about ideal conditions. Both the thermo-hygrometric conditions and air quality, outline the well-being conditions of the works of art. Therefore, our goal is to provide adequate awareness of the scientific care of artistic materials.
